Interior design trends don’t change as fast as fashion. We certainly don’t buy new furniture, reupholster old chairs, change draperies or even paint every season. Unless you are redecorating or remodeling a room, we tend to update our spaces with little touches. Like new pillows or accessories. Repainting is easier and more economical than buying a new sofa or replacing the carpet.
That being said, what are the hottest trends in interior design for 2013?
Emerald Green is the 2013 color of the year according to Pantone.
We will be seeing more gold or shiny brass in accessories and furniture
This gorgeous 32″ gold leaf mirror from High Street Market will make a huge impact over the fireplace.
Interior design is also influenced by what’s happening on the fashion runway:
High contrast, especially black and white stripes.
Floral prints (but not your Granny’s flower fabric!)
Animal prints will also continue to be popular
Wallpaper is making a comeback, but in bold, graphic or embellished designs
I predict designs influenced by the 1920s and Art Deco will be very important in the next few years. Downton Abbey is wildly popular and The Great Gatsby is coming out in May. Which would you choose Roaring Twenties Decadence?
or English Garden Party Elegance?
