With Christmas just a few days away, it’s not too late to think about setting a beautiful table. Pull out what you have on hand then add a few vintage pieces for a charming Christmas table.
I started with a retro holiday table cloth. It doesn’t matter if there are a few stains, they’ll be covered up! Add bright red chargers.
I’m always on the look-out for dinner plates in a festive colors and patterns. I lucked out when I found these vintage holly dishes at Goodwill.
Keep adding more layers. The green glass bowls are actually relish dishes, but they’re perfect for soup, salad or an appetizer. Later you can use them for candy or olives. The goblets are a perfect match. Little kids feel special when they get to drink milk from elegant stemware!
I happen to have a collection of mis-matched old silver napkin rings from the Victorian days when they reused the same cloth napkin at every meal.
I made them more festive by adding a sprig of holly berries that match the plates by taking apart a candle ring that had seen better days. (Never throw anything away; you just never know when it can be reused!)
Instead of the usual centerpiece, I laid a length of garland down the middle of the table and more berries. Then lots of old silver candle sticks in various sizes. No need to polish them up. The patina gives them character.
If you’re hosting Christmas dinner or brunch this year, setting a festive table is another way to say I love you to family and friends.
I’d love to hear how you set your table this season!
Merry Christmas!
