We just returned from a relaxing vacation in Quebec, Canada. It’s a beautiful, charming and very old city. And, they speak French! It’s built on a cliff-side overlooking the St Laurence River. So we walked from Basse-Ville (Lower Town where our hotel was) to Haute-Ville (inside the walls) several times a day. I feel like I have dancer calves after only a week of walking!
Because the city is over 400 years old, the architecture is magnificent.
All the old buildings in Lower Town have been preserved. Most have been re-purposed into boutiques and restaurants with housing on the second and third floors.
The streets are as narrow as they were hundreds of years ago. Amazing that I got a photo without any tourists in the way.
Window boxes filled with flowers are everywhere. Tres jolie!
I love when new design is incorporated with the old in a thoughtful and respectful way.
Rows of old homes line the streets in Upper Town. We could have been in England or France. The influence of both countries is evident everywhere.
You don’t know how hard it was for me not to peek in the windows!
Perfectly symmetrical facades. Even the basement windows line up. Every street in Old Town is on a hill.
I’m not sure how old this building is, but the style is fabulous. It houses an outdoor cafe and is just outside the wall.
Even the roof lines are interesting. I was in design heaven!
Beautiful pix! Thanks for sharing! The people in the photos are wearing shorts, so I assume it was warm; nice! Who got to go with you?
